Wal Mart encouraging employees to vote for McCain

No surprise here really.  I still never cease to get a good laugh out of these Wal Mart stories though.  Afraid of unions, afraid of fair wages, afraid of ya know, being honest.  I haven’t done business with Wal Mart in over four years and have encouraged others to do the same because of stories like this.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc said on Friday it has held meetings with U.S. store managers warning them of issues that could arise if Democrats win power and pass a law that would make it easier for workers to unionize, but stressed it was not telling workers how to vote.

Wal-Mart opposes proposed legislation called the Employee Free Choice Act, which would make it easier for workers to unionize by signing a card rather than holding a vote.

“We believe EFCA is a bad bill and we have been on record as opposing it for some time,” Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar said. “We feel educating our associates about the bill is the right thing to do.”

But here’s the “funny” part, Wal Mart is actually telling it’s employees not to vote for Obama!!

The Journal report said Wal-Mart human-resources managers who run the meetings do not specifically tell attendees how to vote in November’s presidential election, but they make it clear that voting for Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama would be tantamount to inviting unions in.

Teamsters Union to endorse Barack Obama

Just days after the Service Employees International Union endorsed Barack Obama for President he has picked up another important Union endorsement. According to the AP the Teamsters Union is now set to endorse Obama.

Union officials say the powerful Teamsters union will endorse Barack Obama.

The officials say the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is expected to make an official announcement later Wednesday. Teamster President James P. Hoffa plans to meet with Obama in Austin, Texas, before an announcement is made.

The Teamsters represent 1.4-million members, and are considered one of the largest and most powerful unions. They also are a potent source of campaign cash and get-out-the-vote workers for Democrats.

As we all know endorsements don’t necessarily mean voters will follow, but it is important when it comes to building structure in your campaign and Unions especially are good at getting out the vote. Also, up until now Hillary has pretty much had the “blue collar” or “working class” vote on her side. However last night in Wisconsin, and with this endorsement is appears that that too may be shifting towards Obama.
