Daily Kos: McDonnell 50, Deeds 43

Via Daily Kos:

This is pretty much unchanged, from the toplines (just float within the MoE), to the favorability numbers.

These findings are quite different from Rasmussen’s latest Virginia poll, which found McDonnell with a narrow 48-46 lead, and seeming evidence that McDonnell’s college thesis had hurt his numbers:

Pretty odd that left-leaning Daily Kos shows Deeds trailing McDonnell by a wider margin than does Rasmussen - who tends to lean right.

I oppose the Baucus plan

It’s official, Congress is planning to build health care reform on the backs of college students who are already overburdened with rising tuition costs, textbook costs and outrageous interest rates on student loans.

The bill by Baucus, chairman of the Finance Committee, would make major changes to the nation’s $2.5 trillion health care system, including requiring all individuals to purchase health care or pay a fine, and language prohibiting insurance company practices like charging more to people with more serious health problems.

So basically, they plan to ATTEMPT to lower insurance cost by requiring all Americans to participate, but still over no public option:

The bill fails to fulfill President Barack Obama’s aim of creating a new government-run insurance plan — or option — to compete with the private market. It proposes instead a system of nonprofit member owned cooperatives, somewhat akin to electric co-ops that exist in many places around the country. That was one of many concessions meant to win over Republicans.

Democrats can take this bill and put it where it belongs… in the garbage.

Eric Cantor draws 2010 opponent

Eric Cantor (R-7th), perhaps the sleaziest member of Virginia’s Congressional delegation, has drawn a 2010 challenger.

Richmond, VA –Virginia small businessman Charlie Diradour today launched his congressional campaign for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District.

“Virginians know we need to get our economy moving again. As a small business owner, I understand the importance of creating jobs, reducing taxes, and having an educational system that teaches the values and skills that enable our children to lead productive lives.”

It’s going to be an uphill battle, though. Cantor has received more than 60 percent of the vote in each of his first five campaigns and the 7th district (which I used to live in) leans heavily Republican. Part of the problem, though, is that Cantor has never really faced a strong candidate. It looks as though Diradour may represent a change in this pattern.

Joe Wilson apologizes

Via CNN:

“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

Not good enough. Wilson embarassed himself, his state and the entire nation tonight. He should resign immediately.

Joe Wilson to Obama: You lie!

The AP is reporting that Rep Joe Wilson called POTUS a liar during tonight’s address to Congress.

WASHINGTON — The nastiness of August reached from the nation’s town halls into the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday as President Barack Obama tried to move his health care plan forward.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” after Obama had talked about illegal immigrants.

Please call Rep Wilson at 202-225-2452 and let him know that disrespecting the President, the country and millions of Americans who tuned in is NOT ACCEPTABLE. You can also contact the Congressman through his website.

It’s funny because it’s true

The only reason conservatives don’t want their kids to hear a speech from President Obama encouraging them to stay in school is because an educated populace means less votes for Republicans.
