Eric Cantor for VP?

Eric Cantor and bffl George Bush at a White House press conferenceAll I have to say to John McCain and the Republican party is please make this happen so I can watch Obama and the DNC have a field day as they easily roll over the McCain/Cantor ticket on November 4.  Like McCain, Cantor has been in virtual lock-step with George Bush and also likes to tout his pretend foreign policy experience as if he’s actually ever done anything useful while serving in Washington.  Not only that, but Cantor is also a known bff of the Cheney family and he even operates his own PAC, creatively (and hilariously) named “ERIC” or “Every Republican Is Crucial.”  Seriously.

Read more after the jump including details on just who is behind the push to get Cantor on the ticket (HINT: K STREET)!!

Via The Richmond Times:

The notion of Rep. Eric I. Cantor for vice president, which started as musing by conservative commentators in Richmond and Washington, is now a boomlet, complete with Web site: EricCantorforVP.com.

Cantor, R-7th, is No. 3 in the House GOP Caucus. That makes him one of the biggest cheerleaders on Capitol Hill for Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee.

The Web site is the brainchild of a Washington lobbyist, Beau Phillips.

“Congressman Cantor seemed like the perfect candidate,” Phillips said. “Virginia’s going to be a critical, if not literally the most critical, battleground state of this election.”

Ray Allen Jr., a senior adviser to Cantor, said the site is “not something we’ve been involved with or fanned the flames at all. But it is flattering that people think so highly of him.” The Web site says that rather than wait for the McCain team to announce a running mate, “we have decided to provide people with an opportunity to join a campaign for a pro-life, pro-family, pro-market, pro-military, dynamic, young Republican-Conservative Eric Cantor.”

I’ve already signed the petition urging McCain to put Cantor on the ballot and encourage my fellow progressive bloggers to do the same!  Also, the article goes on to mention possible VP candidates from Virginia on the Democratic side as well.  No surprises though as these are names we’ve already heard tossed around for upwards of about a year or so:

On the Democratic side, there are Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and Sen. Jim Webb. Former Gov. Mark R. Warner, a Democrat running for the U.S. Senate, has removed himself from consideration.
