Economic stimulus payment information including where to find out how much you will receive

I’ve seen a lot of talk (and confusion) about this in the blogosphere over the past couple of months, and I think I have a pretty good handle on what exactly will happen and what you have to do to receive your check so I wanted to post a bit of information, including how to find out exactly how much you will receive! According to a Reuters news report from yesterday the IRS will begin issuing payments on May 2 and expected to complete the first round on July 2. Payments will be issued based on the last two digit’s of the taxpayer’s social security number and you must file a 2007 tax return to receive a payment.

More information after the jump, including where to go to determine how much you qualify for!

The payments are part of a $152 billion economic stimulus package signed into law last month by President George W. Bush to try to stave off recession amid a deepening housing and credit market crisis.

The IRS said it expects to make about 34 million payment within the first three weeks after it starts distribution on May 2.

Choosing the direct deposit option for their normal federal tax refund will speed the stimulus payments to taxpayers. Those who who choose this option on their tax returns can expect to receive their payments between May 2 and May 16 provided their returns were received and processed by April 15.

For taxpayers who did not choose direct deposit on their tax return but whose returns were processed by April 15, paper checks will be put in the mail starting on May 16, with initial mailings completed by around July 11.

The IRS has set up an Economic Stimulus Package calculator so you can determine if you qualify and if so, how much you will be receiving. Click here to check it out.

And when exactly can you expect to see an actual check? As stated above, it depends on the last two digits of your social security number, but also depends on whether you choose to receive a direct deposit payment or a paper check. Check out the calendar below:

Direct deposit payment
If last 2 digits of your SS# are: Your rebate should be sent by:
00-20 May 2
21-75 May 9
76-99 May 16

Paper check
If last 2 digits of your SS# are: Your rebate should be sent by:
00-09 May 16
10-18 May 23
19-25 May 30
26-38 June 6
39-51 June 13
52-63 June 20
64-75 June 27
76-87 July 4
88-99 July 11

Hopefully this helped answer some of the questions anyone may have had but if you still have any feel free to leave them in the comments and I’ll try and help out as best I can. :-D

Well I’d just like to say thank whatever higher power there is (not George Bush) for direct deposit and the future stimulation of my bank account.

    WOOT!!!

OK, call me a hippie, but something about this whole economic stimulus check thing just does not sit right with me. I almost feel like this is an STFU payoff by the feds. You know, like “pay no attention to our war for oil while we give you free money to go buy a bunch of junk you don’t need.”

FWIW, my hubby and I plan to stimulate the German economy by buying an Audi A3. Yay capitalism!

I’ll be using mine to make a payment on my student loans. Kinda my little “FU” to the Bush administration who is partly responsible for them being so damn HIGH.

I received mine on Friday and my last two are 57. Are you sure you got direct deposit? I believe everyone who received their’s via D.D. should have received their payment already…

What if you don’t receive your stimulus payment when you know you are entitled to one, I can’t seem to find anyway to contact a person to help and we could really use this money. We filed our taxes early and did get our refund direct deposited within a relatively short period of time. Thanks for your help.

P.S. I found the IRS site where you’re supposed to get status - all it tells me is that status is not available at this time for any number of reasons listed, none of which I can see apply to my situation.
