War vigil in Richmond Monday night

On Monday (March 19, 2007) evening at 6pm, MoveOn.org is hosting an Iraq War Vigil at Byrd Park (at Fountain Lake).

We’re gathering this Monday night in conjunction with 1,000+ vigils across the country to commemorate and reflect on the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq. While Congress debates ending the war and bringing our troops home, let’s gather for what is hopefully our final Iraq war vigil together

Support our member-driven organization: MoveOn.org Political Action is entirely funded by our 3.2 million members. We have no corporate contributors, no foundation grants, no money from unions. Our tiny staff ensures that small contributions go a long way. If you’d like to support our work, you can give now by clicking here.

The vigil is just one of about 1,160 vigils planned for Monday night across the U.S. The event they held back in January was reasonably successful, considering the short notice and the timing, hopefully this one will have even better turn out!

Brownback Mountain supports bigotry!!

Can Senator Brownback Mountain (R-KS) read? Or does he just not CARE that most Americans do not agree with General Peter Pace’s homophobic remarks from the other day?

Via AP:

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs also said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune: “I believe that homosexual acts between individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts. I do not believe the United States is well-served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way.”

Lawmakers of both parties criticized the remarks, but Brownback’s letter called the criticism “both unfair and unfortunate.”

“We should not expect someone as qualified, accomplished and articulate as General Pace to lack personal views on important moral issues,” Brownback said. “In fact, we should expect that anyone entrusted with such great responsibility will have strong moral views.”

Strong moral views? You mean like, 3,100+ Americans dead, God only knows how many Iraqi civilians dead, and no end in sight? Regardless — Hooray! Another Republican running for President that loves to preach about Jesus, and the Bible, all the while spewing hatred and bigotry!

Peter Pace calls homosexuality immoral

I wrote last month about how the United States military is so busy concerning itself with the sexuality of soldiers, that it is even hiring criminals over homosexuals. Tonight — Army General Peter Pace says in an interview that homosexuality is “immoral.”

Addressing the controversial policy as part of a wide-ranging interview with the Tribune in Chicago, Pace said the military should not “condone” immoral behavior by allowing gay soldiers to serve openly. He said his views were based on his “upbringing,” in which certain types of conduct were thought to be immoral.

“I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts…,” Pace said, while also calling it immoral for military members to commit adultery with another service member’s spouse. “I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is okay to be immoral in anyway.

General Pace — how about just doing your job, and don’t concern your feeble little brain with my or anyone else’s sexuality, eh? Seriously, these people grow more and more pathetic with each passing minute.

Jim Webb proposes real action to stop Bush’s rape of the Federal coffers

For those of us who have had enough with the Democrats (and Republicans for that matter) in Congress who simply refuse to do anything but propose, debate, and pass do nothing, “non-binding” resolutions on Iraq, and essentially ignoring what appears to be a Bush buildup to war with Iran — Jim Webb is our man. Fed up with the Bush administration’s unchecked rape of the Federal coffers, Jim Webb asked Congress to use the power of the purse to bar a war with Iran without Congress’ approval.

The freshman Virginia Democrat introduced a bill to block funding for military operations in Iran unless the president gets congressional authority for it.

Webb’s bill would set several exceptions, including the use of U.S. forces to repel an attack from inside Iran or to thwart an imminent attack; and in the “hot pursuit” of forces that enter into Iran.

“This bill basically says the executive branch — this presidency has shot from the hip too many times for us to be able to trust it to act on its own,” Webb told reporters after introducing the bill.

Jim Webb proves once again that he will be a Senator that not only Virginians, but this whole country can be damn proud of. Your welcome, America.

Anne Coulter learns a new word

Anne Coulter speaking last night on John Edwards:

In my opinion, anyone who is against gay marriage — pretty much agrees with Coulter, and has no place to criticize her. Howard Dean of the DNC issued a statement criticizing the remarks, but what I want to know is, if the DNC as a whole sees such a problem with the comment, why in the hell can’t any of the Democratic candidates for President come out say they’ll do the right thing, and push for full gay rights if they’re elected President?? Put up or SHUTUP!
